Monkey see, monkey do comes to mind. Simply, when I watch someone else something, if that something looks enjoyable or seems to have an outcome I deem positive, I am likely to try that behavior. Likely to try, I said, not certain to try as I might find the behavior too difficult or costly in some way to make the perceived outcome worth the perceived cost. That decision process may be nearly instataneous or prolonged depending on a number of other factors. Nice discussion –
