I believe the email author did present an alternative to the clause:

We could require any purchases of commodity materials from international vendors to be subject to a domestic competitive bid first. For example, if Caterpillar feels their most economical source for steel is based in Australia, let’s require them to accept competitive bids from American firms BEFORE they are allowed to place the order to the Australian firm.

Hey, you got a better plan out there? Anyone??? Come on now raise your hand...

You want easy and sterile and one size fits all without any discomfort and without any changes in comfort zone area.

too bad....

Like the wars we are fighting, there was no discomfort from the folks back home... not in the beginning and not now. Consequences were nil for those back home. Newspapers noting it was not popular even put it on the 5th page.

Now this will take some doing but unless you have a plan that make more sense to the citizens and has few unintended and intended consequences for everyone in the US, then ya might want to stop whining. You know, "lead - follow or get out of the way..." but by all means keep monitoring and asking questions.

We need a plan and we need to 'work' the plan. Haven't we all experienced enough of the derision?
